WHO SAYS THE LIBRARY IS JUST FOR KIDS?

We encourage adults to check out the latest reads in our fiction and non-fiction sections as well as our huge selection of large print books, paperbacks, and audiobooks. Want to take a break from reading? We also have a large selection of DVDs that you can checkout. And did you know we even have a Local History section? We have programs for adults too! We welcome you to participate in our book clubs, crocheting and crafting classes, movie club, and book bingo. We always have something exciting going on, which include author visits, wellness fairs, and awesome fundraising events. Always be sure to pick up our monthly calendar of events and follow us on Facebook for the most up to date information. If you haven’t been to our library before or if it’s been a long time, make it a point to stop by and visit. We have convenient hours which include evenings and Saturdays. There is something for everyone at PML!

ADULT BOOK CLUB:

We get together to chat about the book we’ve chosen for each month, picked by the members. Then we explore ideas, genres, authors, or specific books for the coming months. Everyone is able to pick up a copy of next month’s book at the meeting. A book raffle is held for all those members present. Occasionally we are joined by Pittston Area’s Teen Book Club and PML’s Tween / Teen Book Club. These meetings are great for sharing thoughts and ideas across generations. There are also opportunities for movie nights, where we read a book, then watch a movie made from it. Meetings are held on the third Monday of the month in the Cosgrove Center and new members are always welcome. Pick up this month’s book and come see what we’re all about.

ADULT CRAFTING CLASS:

Adults are invited to come try their hand at different mediums, making crafts to decorate your home for every day or the holidays. You don’t need to be an artist or even very crafty to join, only a desire! Supplies are provided, so sign-ups are required at least 24 hours in advance. Classes are held in the Creative Corner and there is a small fee to cover the cost of the supplies and reserve your seatBe sure to check our monthly calendar for dates and times.

ANTI-SOCIAL BOOK CLUB:

Looking for a quiet, relaxing place to unwind and read? This “club” provides the ambiance to do just that. The music is soft, a pleasant aroma fills the air, and the harsh lights are dimmed. It runs for two hours, but you don’t have to stay the entire time. Check our monthly calendar for the afternoons or evenings this “club” meets. Grab your book and a beverage and come join us!

BEGINNER’S CROCHET CLASS:

This class is designed to teach the very basics in crocheting, from holding a hook to reading a pattern. There is no cost for this class, but the class size is limited. There is an adult class and a class for teens/tweens held one Monday a month. Call the library to reserve your spot for an upcoming class. Be sure to check our monthly calendar for dates and times.

BOOK BINGO:

“B4” you look any further, mark your calendar for the afternoon of the third Tuesday of the month. We play at least five games of bingo and every winner selects a book prize. Come discover a new author or genre, all for free! Join us in the Cosgrove Center.

“BOOKS ‘N’ BITES”:

This different type of adult book club brings together everyone who likes to talk about books. We get to share our favorite books, authors, and genres. We talk about what we’re currently reading or just finished. Bring along a snack to share and join us in the Cosgrove Center. Check our monthly calendar for dates and times.

CULINARY CREATIONS CLUB:

Come join us as we explore all the different recipes the cookbooks on our shelves have to offer! Each meeting we will choose a cookbook, then choose recipes. The next meeting we will bring in our dishes for everyone else to sample. This club meets on the 2nd Thursday of the month. Be sure to check our calendar for dates and times.

FRIDAY FLUMMOX:

Flummox – to perplex greatly. Play some “mind games” with us each Friday. Test your skills on crosswords, puzzles, word searches, sudokus, or other perplexing fun! You’ll find flummox feats in the Passive Puzzle Place in the main room of the library.

MEMORY BAGS:

For those with loved ones in the beginning stages of Alzheimer’s, we offer different themed bags, such as beach, trains, kitchen, etc. These bags contain an assortment of items like puzzles, books, and other objects. Stop in and borrow a bag, free of charge!

“OFF THE HOOK”:

This is PML’s adult needlework club. It is for the more experienced artisan and is not an instructional class. Come show off what you’re making, help others with tips and tricks, and spend a relaxing couple of hours working on your project (and having adult conversation). So grab your hooks, yarn, needles, fabric…and your coffee…and join us in the Reading Nook on the fourth Thursday of the month.

PUZZLE SWAP:

PML has a large selection of puzzles, ranging from 350 to 1,000 pieces. Bring in a puzzle you have and swap it for one that we have.

ROCK PAINTING CLASS, SPONSORED BY EDWARD’S GARDEN CENTER:

Join us as we ROCK PITTSTON WITH KINDNESS. The class meets on the first Tuesday of every month to paint pictures or words of inspiration on rocks. They are then placed around Pittston. Our hope is that these little artistic creations will be uplifting and help beautify our city! Please register at least 24 hours in advance so there are enough supplies. There is a small fee to cover the cost of supplies and to reserve your spot.

SILVER SCREEN MOVIE CLUB:

Adults looking for something relaxing to do can join us for a movie each Wednesday afternoon. We show classic black & white movies as well as some old favorites. There is no cost for the show and a limited supply of popcorn and water will be available. Movies are shown in the Reading Nook on the big TV.

SPICE CLUB:

Once a month stop in our library to pick up our featured spice while supplies last. This take-home kit will include a sample of the spice, recipes, and a brief history of that month’s spice. Once you use the spice, email us a picture of your finished dish so that we can show it off!

TRIPLE THREAD FIBER ARTS CLUB:

All types of string art are explored in this club. Participants learn a skill and are able to complete a simple project. There is no cost, but sign-ups are required at least 24 hours in advance since supplies are provided. Be sure to check our monthly calendar for dates and times.
